Where in Southeast Asia

“Where in Southeast Asia” is a new feature we’ve introduced with the goal of producing engaging questions about Southeast Asia while simultaneously building a catalog of SEA-focused historical/geographical/and cultural information available to junior- and high-school teachers for use in their classrooms. Teachers can use the questions to create a quick activity or as an opening for a longer discussion.

- I am on an island in a lake in an island in a lake in an island. Where am I?

- I’m on an island in the Indian Ocean where inhabitants speak a language most closely related to one in Kalimantan’s interior. But I’m not in Southeast Asia.

- I’m in a narrow strait of water between two islands. To my west are animals largely of Asian origin, but over 50% of the fauna on the islands to my east are of Australian origin like marsupials.
