Valerie Cleland

I’m interested in the intersection of Arctic communities and natural resource management. Because language and culture are so interwoven, I hope to gain greater understanding of the people who call the Arctic home by studying Inuktitut through the Canadian Studies Department. I’m pursuing a master’s in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs with a focus on oil spill risk in coastal communities.The FLAS is giving me the opportunity to study language and culture alongside science, and I hope to continue to explore this intersection in my graduate studies.
