About

Sophi completed a BA in Russian Language at Portland State University in 2021. She went on to teach English in Oregon, Mexico, and Moldova. While in Moldova, she also volunteered at the Center of Rehabilitation for Victims of Violence ‘Memoria’ based in Chișinău. There, she helped the center provide psychological rehabilitation and other needed support to those fleeing violence.
Sophi is now working at an acute care unit at the University of Washington Medical Center where she helps coordinate patient care. Her professional interests include international human rights work and Indigenous issues and knowledge. In her free time, Sophi enjoys baking sourdough bread, learning languages, and practicing aerial circus arts.
In the fall, Sophi is set to begin her master’s degree program at the University of Washington School of Social Work alongside studying Inuktut with the FLAS program. FLAS offers her a unique opportunity to learn from and work with more of those in rural communities. This will be invaluable experience, she believes, for her goals to advance and safeguard self-determination in the Arctic.
