About

My name is Sofia Ngieng and I am a second year student at the University of British Columbia majoring in Political Science and English. I am so excited to be a part of the Corbett Virtual Exchange this year! I truly believe in the importance of understanding the cross-border relationship between Canada and the USA so that we cannot only appreciate it, but cultivate it as well.

As someone who has friends from around the world I have really come to love learning and immersing myself amongst other cultures. I spent a year as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Denmark when I was 16 years old and it gave me many great cultural experiences which I cherish to this day. Along with my experiences, it taught me the value of international connection and friendships. Celebrating our commonalities and our differences is very important to our cross-border relationships. As well, growing up as an individual of Asian, Métis, and European descent I was exposed to many aspects of different cultures that have shaped my character, teaching me to embrace diversity. I am so excited to continue my education of cultural diversity and similarity between Canada and the USA through the Corbett Virtual Exchange alongside an awesome group of likeminded individuals!

The Corbett British Columbia-Washington International Exchange Program Fund provides an opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of Washington to spend two semesters at the University of British Columbia or University of Victoria; and for students from the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria to spend three quarters at the University of Washington.
