Patricia Johnston has worked throughout the Arctic and northern Canada for the last 15 years. As a critical theorist, her research interests focus on community-based research in relation to social, cultural and economic impacts of policy on Inuit children and families in Nunavut, Indigenous governance, gendered labor and exclusion, traditional knowledge, and the perpetuation of colonial institutions over time in the Arctic. Her postdoctoral research project is titled, “Moving Towards Inuit Child and Family Wellbeing: Exploring an Inuit Approach to Child Welfare in Arviat, Nunavut.”
