Maxine Savage is a PhD candidate in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington. Their dissertation examines discourses of sexuality, race, and place in cultural production connected to Danish colonialism in Iceland, Kalaallit Nunaat, and the US Virgin Islands. During the FLAS fellowship, Maxine looks forward to expanding their understanding of the communities, languages, and histories of Inuit Nunaat/Nunangat. Supported by the AAUW, the Fulbright Commission, and the American-Scandinavian Foundation, Maxine has collaborated with the Northwest Film Forum, Kino Lorber, Taste of Iceland, and The Poetry Brothel-Reykjavík.
