Kathryn Read Kearney

Writing, University of Victoria, 2020-2021 Corbett Recipient

About

My name is Katie Read Kearney. I am grateful and excited to be afforded the opportunity to participate in the Corbett Exchange Program at the University of Washington. I grew up in Montréal, Québec where I received a French immersion education. I am now a first-year writing student at the University of Victoria. My interests are interdisciplinary and my goal is to study media, design, film and marketing this coming year. I am looking forward to exploring the many courses in these areas that The University of Washington offers.

The University of Washington’s commitment to “the active pursuit of global engagement and connectedness” resonates with me. One of the primary reasons I am drawn to attending university abroad this coming year is that I am becoming more aware of myself as a global citizen. I highly value collaborating, connecting with and learning from others. I have greatly appreciated becoming a member of the University of Victoria community this past academic year and I am eager to participate in cultivating a network of mutual support and encouragement at the University of Washington. I look forward to navigating the University of Washington and Seattle, and to seeking out the many exciting opportunities both on and off campus. I am incredibly honored to be a recipient of the Corbett British Columbia-Washington International Exchange scholarship

The Corbett British Columbia-Washington International Exchange Program Fund provides an opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of Washington to spend two semesters at the University of British Columbia or University of Victoria; and for students from the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria to spend three quarters at the University of Washington.
