About

Elena I. Campbell is working on a new book project, tentatively titled The Northern Turn: Imperial Nation-Building, Development, and Environment in Late Tsarist Russia. Her book project aims to redirect the interpretation of Russian history to its northern horizons. It explores the historical circumstances and personalities that brought the Russian North into national focus during the late tsarist era (1860s-1917) as well as the implications of this turn for the empire’s northern periphery and the tsarist regime. Elena teachers undergraduate and graduate courses on Russian history and serves as a UW representative at the Council of UArctic.
