About
I’m a graduate student in the linguistics department, and I’m researching Nuu-chah-nulth, a First Nations language spoken along the west coast of Vancouver Island. My research focuses on some unique properties of the language’s morphology (the process of building words) and syntax (word ordering). The FLAS gives me the opportunity to know the language more and become a better speaker. The better I speak the language the better I can direct my research, and the better I direct my research, the more relevant my work can be for revitalization efforts on the island.
