Ashley Jong
About
My name is Ashley, and I am a Health Sciences student at McMaster University, specializing in Child Health. Having grown up in Toronto, Ontario, I am thrilled to be embarking to Seattle for my Killam Fellowship exchange, not only to explore the wonders of the west coast, but to build upon my current skills and understanding of global medicine and research.
The mentors I have been privileged to work alongside and the friends I cherish back in Canada have greatly inspired my interest for both research and medicine – passions of which I am excited to continue cultivating at the University of Washington. Moreover, in representing Canada, I am eager to share my experiences and perspectives with fellow student researchers and like-minded individuals throughout my exchange. Within my communities, I work as a research student at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and in my spare time, I enjoy engaging in a variety of activities, from tutoring youth residing in low socioeconomic status communities to simply composing music with friends for senior home concerts and performances.
I look forward to my academic journey at the University of Washington – from the exciting challenges of working in a new environment to the valuable relationships and lessons I will attain along the way.
