About

My name is Anaan Feruz and I am entering my fourth and final year as an undergraduate student at the University of Washington. I am studying Medical Anthropology and Global Health. My passions led me to the honor and privilege of conducting interviews at a maternal ward in Zanzibar. Living day by day like a Zanzibari, hearing the call to prayers, seeing chickens walking around, feeling the humidity, and witnessing the pace of life, I immersed myself to live in the environment my own participants–who I consider to be like my mothers–live in. My dad has always said to me, “if not now, when? If not you, who?”. Only I can embark on a unique journey to fuel my desire to understand those around me. This opportunity holds many more opportunities within it. I am most excited to take in the breathtaking views but also the indulge in the diverse cuisine Vancouver treasures.

The Corbett British Columbia-Washington International Exchange Program Fund provides an opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of Washington to spend two semesters at the University of British Columbia or University of Victoria; and for students from the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria to spend three quarters at the University of Washington.
