Alexander Arkfield

I am originally from Nebraska and experienced firsthand the fight against the Keystone XL oil pipeline. This fight inspired me and I am eager to research further the legal rights of Canadian First Nations as they fight their own battles against oil pipelines and seek to protect their lands from spills and takings. The FLAS will allow me to immerse myself in the culture of the Coast Salish peoples as I study the Lushootseed language. I believe my studies and this immersion will make me a better, more empathetic advocate in the future, when I will hopefully have the opportunity to join in this fight and similar ones from a legal standpoint.
