Laval Summer Exchange

The Center, in collaboration with the Department of French and Italian Studies and Study Abroad, offers a direct exchange program for UW students to conduct summer study at l’Université Laval in Québec City. This program is specifically geared to students who would like to focus on French language acquisition. It is tailored to each student’s language level, and allows students to take content courses designed for speakers of French as a foreign language. Courses will be taken on the Université Laval campus. If travel is not permitted, students may elect to study at Laval virtually. The priority application deadline is April 1st.

The École de langues de l’Université Laval offers a team of experienced teachers and enthusiastic monitors ready to give solid training in French. Alternating between courses in class and socio-cultural activities allows students to exchange in French in a motivating setting. L’Université Lavall ensures that students are living in full immersion in a cozy, dynamic, and secure environment. Students can apply to live in one of the university residence halls or arrange housing on their own. More information can be found here.

In order to maintain full time status, you’ll need to complete at least 120 hours of study. Students who have applied through UW Study Abroad, in addition to Laval, for 3-4 courses will earn 18-24 UW credits, most likely of French 199, 299 or 308/390/337. Other UW credits may be awarded.
