Advanced Readings Seminars
JSIS 498 currently has two options: 1) Advanced Readings, a seminar which includes reading and writing about major texts; and 2) Seminars in Public Writing, which is a writing seminar with relatively less reading and a greater emphasis on editing and workshopping writing for a public audience
Advanced Readings Seminar
Reading and discussion of selected works of major importance in interdisciplinary international studies.
- Open to UW juniors and seniors
- Open to UW graduate students
- A 5-credit course
- Equips students with critical thinking skills and promotes a deeper understanding of complex global issues
Advanced Seminars in Public Writing
A writing seminar with relatively less reading and a greater emphasis on editing and workshopping writing for a public audience:
- Open to UW juniors and seniors
- Open to UW graduate students
- A 5-credit course
- Equips students with applied skills to translate their academic knowledge to a broad public audience
- In 2019, the UW became one of the first universities west of the Mississippi, and one of the first public institutions, to launch the Calderwood Seminars in Public Writing program
