Prof. Das is accepting new MA and PhD students for the 2027-2028 academic year
Debamanyu Das is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and a faculty affiliate at the Center for Environmental Politics at the University of Washington Seattle. His research and teaching interests are in political economy, environmental policy, economic development, and macroeconomics. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in critical minerals and their role in the energy transition.
His current research relates to the political economy of the clean energy transition and associated industrial policies, focusing on critical minerals. Through his research, he explores the role of state industrial policies in shaping China’s current dominance in the critical mineral supply chains. His research also explores climate mitigation strategies in the Global South, focusing on policies to bridge the gap between the Global North and the South. Other research includes the macroeconomic impacts of the debt crisis and restructuring in Sri Lanka. At UW, Dr. Das teaches courses on political economy and energy.
