Chinese Flagship Program
The University of Washington has a newly launched Chinese Flagship Program! The Chinese Flagship Program is a federally funded program that offers Chinese language courses and culminates in a year-long capstone experience in Taiwan or China, where students study abroad and complete an internship in their field. In Taiwan, the International Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan University is a summer language study option, and National Yang-Ming University is an option for the capstone year. Flagship is open to all UW undergraduate majors. The application due date is rolling. Please consider applying for this new opportunity!
2021 TUSA Global Ambassador Scholarship Program
2021 Program to be offered virtually (June 9th – August 3rd)
National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan
The Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) Summer Scholarship Program is an ambassador program that launched in 2005. The annual program provides scholarship students from the United States a unique opportunity to improve Chinese language proficiency, appreciate global issues, and increase intercultural connections between the United States and Taiwan. TUSA Global Ambassadors are expected to act as goodwill advocates for both the United States and Taiwan wherever opportunities present themselves.
In view of the continued global public health risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and pending approval by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education, TUSA plans to offer the TUSA Global Ambassador Program in virtual form in the Summer of 2021. Our host institution in Taiwan, National Cheng Kung University, has developed an excellent synchronous distance learning model to this end. The 2021 application cycle runs from Feb 1st to March 15th.
Consular Fellows Program
Foreign Service Consular Fellows serve in U.S. embassies and consulates overseas alongside Foreign Service Officers, other U.S. agency personnel, and locally-employed staff. Using their language skills in Chinese, their primary duty is to adjudicate visas for foreign nationals. Duties and responsibilities are similar to those of entry-level career Foreign Service Officers, although the Consular Fellows program is not an alternate entry method to the Foreign Service or the U.S. Department of State.
