MA – East Asia, Taiwan Track
Taiwan Track in East Asia Studies
The NEW M.A. in International Studies – East Asia has four concentrations with Taiwan being one. The inaugural cohort will begin in Autumn 2025 (application for Autumn 2026 deadline is January 31, 2026).
The East Asia M.A. at the University of Washington offers students the opportunity to develop a substantial understanding of East Asian culture, history, society, and contemporary issues while focusing their coursework on China, Japan, Korea, or Taiwan. Additionally language learning is a core element of the program of study.
The faculty members of the Taiwan Studies Program provide a broad and deep range of course offerings in the social sciences and humanities. While relatively small, there is close faculty-student interaction. Students may combine their graduate study with professional degrees (subject to acceptance by those programs and schools) through a con-current degree opportunity in which two degrees may be earned in the course of three years rather than four. Advanced work may also be pursued in disciplinary departments after completion of the M.A. degree.
