Jennifer Joy graduated from the University of Washington in 2021, earning a M.A. in International Studies from the Jackson School. Her thesis concerned the issue of unrecognized state sovereignty, and asked how Taiwan’s model could or could not be used in the case of Somaliland. Prior to her time at the University of Washington, Jennifer was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Malaysia, staff at the Green River College International Programs department, and also worked for American Councils in implementing the NSLI-Y program at Tamkang University. She was also the program assistant for the UW Taiwan Studies Program during her graduate studies. Upon graduation, Jennifer accepted a Boren Fellowship award to study Swahili.
