Initiated in 2015, the University of Washington US Army War College Fellowship (USAWC) is an immersive, yearlong program in a university setting for U.S. military senior officers. Based in the Jackson School of International Studies, Fellows study the politics, history, and culture of one or more countries and engage with students and scholars. They also have the opportunity to meet with policy makers, government officials, dignitaries, NGOs and private organizations for mutual understanding of the U.S. in the world.

Colonel Jason M. Schick
Colonel Jason Shick, as an Infantry Officer, most recently served as the commander of 2nd Battalion, 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. His 22-year career in the Army includes multiple combat deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, and multiple operational deployments to Asia and Europe. Some recent significant assignments include: Current Operations Officer for Security Assistance Group-Ukraine; Battalion Commander of 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment; Operations Officer for 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade; Executive Officer for the USCENTCOM Vice J5; Operations Officer for 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division; and command of a Rifle Company and Dismounted Reconnaissance Troop in 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division. Col. Shick earned a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Institute of Technology and Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s College of California.
Lieutenant Colonel Deanna Manriquez
Lieutenant Colonel Deanna Manriquez, as an Aviation Officer, most recently served as the State Army Aviation Officer/Director of Aviation and Safety for the Hawaii National Guard. Her 24-year career in the Army and Hawaii National Guard includes a combat deployment to Afghanistan, a deployment to NORTHCOM’s Southern Border support to Customs and Border Patrol, among multiple overseas deployments for exercises and training. Some recent significant assignments include as a future operations military planner at U.S. Army Pacific, collaborating with Army commands in the Pacific, Joint Services, and multiple Indo-Pacific partner nations (Japan, Australia, and the Philippines) and command of numerous aviation companies and a Geographic Task Force Hawaii during the National Guard’s response efforts to the Kilauea lava emergency and Hurricane Lane. LTC Manriquez holds a master’s degree in interior architecture and design from the Academy of Art University in California, a bachelor’s degree in forensic science from Chaminade University of Honolulu, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Arizona.
