Two Jackson School faculty co-edit new state-of-the-field Oxford Handbook on Japanese politics

The Oxford Handbook of Japanese PoliticsIn the first print edition of “The Oxford Handbook of Japanese Politics,” published by Oxford University Press in January 2022, Jackson School faculty Robert J. Pekkanen, Professor of International Studies, and Saadia M. Pekkanen, Job and Gertrud Tamaki Professor, provide a state-of-the-field overview for students and researchers of Japanese.

The book of 40 chapters by leading scholars from Europe, Asia, Australia and North America is divided into two parts, roughly corresponding to domestic Japanese politics and Japan’s international politics with an overall theme of “evaluating Japan’s democracy.” It also serves to introduce Japanese politics to readers less familiar with Japan.

An online version was published in 2020.
