African Studies Program Chair Christopher Tounsel
African Studies Program Chair Christopher Tounsel recently received an Honorable Mention for the Best Article Prize from the African Studies Review (ASR) for his article “A Tale of Two Divestments: South Africa, Sudan, and Howard University.”
In the article, Tounsel examines Howard University’s divestment from both South Africa and Sudan, and how each divestment fits within the university’s history of engagement with Africa; this is Tounsel’s most recent publication following his 2024 book, “Bounds of Blackness: African Americans, Sudan, and the Politics of Solidarity.”
Tounsel will be recognized during the ASR Distinguished Lecture on Friday, Nov. 21 during the 68th annual African Studies Association meeting.
