Professor Emeritus Bacharach recognized with mentor award

Professor Emeritus Jere L. Bacharach is one of two recipients of the 2015 Mentoring Award from the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) of North America. MESA is the largest scholarly organization to study the region from Spain to Afghanistan from 600 C.E. to the present. The award, presented on Nov. 22, recognizes exceptional contributions that retired faculty have made to the education and training of others.

The award presentation outlines Bacharach’s contributions to the education and training of others in Middle East Studies:

  1. With deep appreciation for his steadfast dedication to mentoring Ph.D. students, reinforcing the notion of the worthiness of their research and writing, and inspiring them to achieve their potential.
  2. For guiding colleagues at key career moments, with a keen understanding of the importance of the fit between individuals and academic positions, insuring harmony, for all involved.
  3. For the abundant and discerning attention to drafts and manuscripts of young colleagues in every stage of preparation, providing suggestions to strengthen and advance hypotheses and arguments;
  4. For a long and illustrious career that has been a force for good in all academic and scholarly setting and an optimistic and nurturing spirit that continues to inspire.
