February 22, 2017

Fromer U.S. Congressman, Jim McDermott
Just days before the inauguration of America's 45th President, U.S. Congressman Jim McDermott, who recently retired after 14 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, gave an insider's peek at what happens behind the scenes when a new Administration takes over the government. The event was held in Kane Hall 220 at the University of Washington.

Former Congressman and Jackson School Affiliate Faculty Jim McDermott gives an interview on immigration, U.S. relations with Russia, and cabinet appointments a month into Donald Trump’s presidency, as part of a first ‘100 days’ series on the U.S. president.

McDermott says Trump’s plan to tighten immigration enforcement and sanction sanctuary cities threaten the ability of a city like Seattle to draw in people who bring in knowledge and technical abilities.
