María Elena García, interim chair of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, has been awarded the 2022 Flora Tristán Prize for Best Book on Peru, a recognition given annually by the Peru section of the Latin American Studies Association.
The book, “Gastropolitics and the Specter of Race: Stories of Capital, Culture, and Coloniality in Peru” (University of California Press, March 2021), and García, also later featured in a cover story titled, “What’s Behind Peru’s Recent ‘Gastronomic Revolution’? about the relationship between political violence in Peru and its gastronomic revolution (Aug. 17, 2022, Philadelphia Latinx magazine Al Día).
García is also faculty at the Comparative History of Ideas department at the University of Washington.
