Blue Tent, a media site that focuses on dialogue by and for the progressive and Democratic left, has named Jackson School Associate Professor Daniel Bessner, as one of the “Top 11 Scholars” to read to understand the New Left.
Bessner, who recently became the Joff Hanauer Honors Professorship in Western Civilization at the University of Washington, is a U.S. foreign policy expert. He is a Quincy Institute Fellow and frequent contributor to media, including CNN, The Atlantic, The Nation and Jacobin, where his writings critique U.S. foreign policy and philanthropy. His book “Democracy in Exile: Hans Speier and the Rise of the Defense Intellectual” was published in 2018 by Cornell University Press.
Other scholars named to the list include Michelle Alexander and Adolph Reed, Jr. whose work respectively often appears in The New York Times and The New Republic.
