CTA Day 2024: Stories of Asian Art: In Consideration of a Decolonial Narrative

Please join the Committee for Teaching About Asia (CTA) for CTA Day 2024 –  Stories of Asian Art: In Consideration of a Decolonial Narrative. This year, we will head to the Seattle Asian Art Museum (SAAM) to hear the stories of the SAAM collection and the curatorial decisions behind the make-up of the collection through a decolonized lens. The program will be led by Yaoyao Liu, Manager of School & Educator Programs, Seattle Art Museum; Lauren Kent, Seattle-based artist and arts educator; and Melanie King, Art Historian and East Asia Resource Center Program Leader.

Thursday, March 14, 2024; 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM at the Seattle Asian Art Museum (400 E Prospect St, Seattle, WA 98112)

Schedule

9:30-10:00 AM – Registration/check-in
10:00-10:30 AM – Introductions and overview about SAAM building/reinstallation
10:30-11:15 AM – Gallery tour
11:20 AM-12:00 PM – Lecture
12:45 PM-1:00 PM: Share-out
1:00-2:00 PM – Lunch
2:00-2:30 PM – Gallery activity
2:30-3:30 PM – Share-out, reflection, and closing in small groups

Lunch options

We will order lunch from Monsoon Vietnamese Restaurant. When you sign up for this event, you will have the chance to express your menu preference.
