Teshan Laucirica

Teshan Laucirica (she/her) is a second-year MA student and FLAS Fellow at the Jackson School of International Studies, in the Southeast Asian studies program focused on Thailand. During her undergraduate studies, she majored in Anthropology of Globalization and minored in History which the MA program further builds upon. Her thesis interests lie in the Golden Triangle region which borders Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar (Burma), where she hopes to answer questions regarding the history of this ambiguous area and the borders and identities created here. Current research is focused on trafficking and exploitation through the Bokeo Special Economic Zone, and how the trafficking in humans, drugs, and animals might be increasing due to income instability from Covid-19 and the coup in Myanmar (Burma) last February. This research will also be questioning who ultimately has or disavows responsibility and authority over what occurs in this (and other) Special Economic Zones.
