John Tran

John’s research interests focus on the intersection of language and power, language hierarchy, and language politics. He examines language as historical and continued sites of nation-building, ideology, hegemony, and identity formation. Specifically, his research of Vietnam from these vantage points explores language as being at once constitutive of and yet antithetical to the Vietnamese national identity. John is a student of both the Vietnamese and Mandarin Chinese languages at UW.
