The Pacific Northwest National Resource Center on Canada (including the Canadian Studies Center at the University of Washington and Center for Canadian-American Studies at Western Washington University) paired up with the Northeast Resource Center to participate in the annual meetings of the National Council for the Social Studies held in San Francisco in November 2017. Natalie Baloy, the new Assistant Director at the Center for Canadian-American Studies at Western Washington University, worked with Betsy Arntzen, University of Maine, and Amy Sotherden, State University of New York at Plattsburgh, to create the Canada exhibit booth. The booth was part of International Alley and focused on resources for teaching about Canada for U.S. educators. During the conference, the team talked with hundreds of educators from across the United States about Canadian history, literature, and politics, and shared educational resources and pedagogical ideas.
The team also jointly attended an Area Studies Outreach pre-conference in Berkeley and participated in a pre-conference interactive workshop on Indigenous Peoples and Social Justice in British Columbia.
