Educators also met with regional and film experts and saw clips from a number of films, including A Century of Genocide in the Americas: The Residential School Experience, the Canadian Studies Center-sponsored session, featuring UW alum Rosemary Gibbons, who spoke about the history of residential schools in Canada and the effects the schools had on First Nations communities.
Educators from throughout the Pacific Northwest convened on Saturday, May 9, to learn about implementing documentary film into their classroom. The keynote was Diana Hess, Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison, who specializes in the use of controversy in the classroom.
