A paper by FLAS Alumna Samantha Farquhar, “Inuit seal hunting in Canada” was just published in ARCTIC Journal.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) alumna Samantha Farquhar (French, 2018-2019) just had a paper published in the March issue (vol. 73, no. 1) of ARCTIC JournalInuit Seal Hunting in Canada: Emerging Narratives in an Old Controversy.” The article examines the changing narratives around seal hunting in Canada, changes to national policy, and how the Canadian government is planning to increase market access to Inuit-harvested seals.

Samantha received her MA from the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs in 2019. With the help of a FLAS Fellowship, Samantha spent a summer at the Bouchereau Lingua International (BLI) language school in Québec City where she studied French and Canadian marine policy.
