Former Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellow Samantha Farquhar was recently awarded her doctorate in integrated coastal sciences by East Carolina University. Her dissertation, “The impacts of industrial fishing on household food security: insights from the Canadian North,” explores the intersection of industrial fisheries and food security in Arctic communities, providing key insights into how fisheries development could impact access to traditional and market-based foods.
Samantha Farquhar was awarded two Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships to study French by the Canadian Studies Center for the Summer of 2018 and the 2018-19 academic year. She graduated from the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs in 2019.
