In Fall Quarter 2025, the Jackson School of International Studies was fortunate to host three visiting scholars in Arctic Studies sponsored by the Canadian Studies Center and the Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies.
- European Union Fellow, Jose Miguel Roncero Martin, is working on a project on the emerging blue economy in the Arctic and subsequent relations between Canada, the United States and the European Union.
- Elin Furu Markusson, Department of Language and Culture, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, is researching social linguistics and the Sámi language.
- Fulbright Scholar, Eeva Kuikka, Tampere University, Finland, is working on her project concerning the Indigenous experience and literary expression in the Russian Arctic.
In late October the three scholars engaged in a roundtable discussion of their diverse projects with Arctic scholars and students from across campus. They are each meeting with other scholars while at the University of Washington to build long-term research collaborations. The roundtable was sponsored by the Canadian Studies Center and Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies.
