2014-15 Fulbright Chair in Arctic Studies collaborating with Google Maps

Director, Producer and Cinematography Joel Heath

January 1, 2016

Joel Heath, UW’s 2014-15 Fulbright Canada Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies, is now working with Google to bring the hamlet of Sanikiluaq in Hudson Bay in the Canadian Arctic to the world. The islands are home to the Eider duck that is suffering die-off as a result of hydro-electric development around the Bay – the subject that inspired Heath’s award-winning film, “People of a Feather.”

Now viewers can explore the sea ice habitats and community of Sanikiluaq featured in “People of a Feather” using the first of its kind Google Street View, on the Arctic Eider Society’s new Interactive Knowledge Mapping Platform: www.arcticeider.com/map.
