A series of exhibitions, discussions, and guided tours brings together historical sites and stories connected to the 228 Incident across many places in Taiwan, including Taipei, Hsinchu, Yilan, Taichung, Nantou, Keelung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien, Penghu. These images, discussions, and texts guide visitors into events often reduced to a single conflict, but which unfolded as prolonged oppression across countless sites. Whether preserved, transformed, or erased, these locations and histories continue to hold those stories.
This program is a collaborative effort between the UW Taiwan Studies Arts & Culture Program and its generous partners: UW Tateuchi East Asia Library, the 228 Memorial Foundation (Taiwan), Pacific Alliance For Autonomous Traditions, Indigenous Sovereignty, Taiwanese Association of Greater Seattle, Formosan Association for Public Affairs Washington Chapter, and Greater Seattle Taiwanese Women’s Association.
