Energy Issues in East Asia – Winter 2022 Lecture Series: Energy Transition and Climate Change in East Asia with Professor Wei-Ming Chen

April 18, 2022

The first of our joint Winter Lecture series with the Program on the Environment, Energy Issues in East Asia, occurred February 24, 2022. Professor Wei-Ming Chen (Biden School of Public Policy & Administration at the University of Delaware) discussed the shifts away from fossil fuels by the governments of Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. She addressed current climate change data and how each of the above nations are targeting green energy strategies. Taiwan displayed a unique pattern of energy usage and consumption based on shifts away from nuclear power, yet, as Professor Chen argues, Taiwan and its East Asian neighbors are still overly reliant on fossil fuels, regardless of their increased efforts to move towards renewable energy usage.
