Our interview with Professor Taiban Sasala held on October 11, 2021 covered Professor Sasala’s experiences as an Indigenous Educator and his research about his indigenous group and other indigenous communities in Taiwan.
Many issues faced by the indigenous peoples of Taiwan continue to be unaddressed by contemporary Taiwanese governing and social systems. The inequality these peoples face and the natural disadvantages indigenous groups must circumvent are the main topics addressed by Professor Sasala in our interview. His childhood experiences growing up as an indigenous person in Taiwan provide key insights into the indigenous situation. Additionally, Professor Sasala illuminates successes he has engendered for indigenous communities in Taiwan over the past few years. Glimmers of progress are being made, but much work is yet to be done to uplift the indigenous peoples of Taiwan.
