Yong-Chool Ha Publishes New Monograph

April 1, 2024

Jackson School Professor and CKS Director Yong-Chool Ha has recently published the book “Late Industrialization, Tradition, and Social Change in South Korea” (University of Washington Press, 2024).

Within the book, Ha — the director for the Center for Korea Studies at the University of Washington — examines the social consequences of late industrialization in South Korea. He notes that despite Korea’s economic prosperity, there is still an overwhelming reliance on the traditional social structures that affect Korean politics, society and institutions.

Ha discussed the aspects of Korean politics and socio-economic relations found in “Late Industrialization, Tradition, and Social Change in South Korea” more in-depth during book talks for American University on March 21 and the George Washington University Institute for Korea Studies on March 22.
