Clark Sorensen at the 2022 Korea Foundation Global Korean Studies Forum

September 2, 2022

On August 4, 2022, UW CKS Director and Professor Emeritus, Clark Sorensen, spoke at the 2022 Korea Foundation Global Korean Studies Forum. Professor Sorensen discussed the history of Korea Studies in the Western US, while also providing perspectives for the field moving forward. Highlighting the incredible support of the Korea Foundation at campuses across the U.S., Dr. Sorensen explored how KF support combined with burgeoning interest in Korea has led to a firmly established field of study. To continue growth in Korea Studies, Professor Sorensen discussed how we must place greater focus on language training, particularly early in a students’ academic careers, if we hope to have future graduate students and scholars capable of performing original language research.
