New Associate Member of the Center for Korea Studies
Ji-Hyun Ahn joins the Center for Korea Studies as an Associate Member. Professor Ahn is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington-Tacoma specializing in media globalization, Korean television and popular culture, Asian multiculturalism, and critical mixed-race studies. Her current research explores anti-Korean sentiment and the rise of new nationalism in postcolonial East Asia.
New Interim Associate Director
The Center for Korea Studies welcomes Ian Oates as our new Interim Associate Director. A former student with the Jackson School, Ian received his B.A. in German Studies from Northern Michigan University in 2013, and he received his M.A. in International Studies – Korea Studies from JSIS in 2021. Ian has held a variety of roles in international education and the non-profit sector, working as an elementary school educator in the Jeollanam-do and Chungcheongbuk-do provinces with the Republic of Korea’s National Institute for International Education and as a conservationist in his home state of Michigan.
Congratulations to our former Associate Director, Marco Garcia, who took a new position in the Northshore School District as the Community Partnerships & Volunteer Coordinator. We hope to continue working with Marco in his new role!
