Dear Center for Global Studies community, As Autumn Quarter comes to a close, we look back at some Center for Global Studies activities from the past several months and highlight some upcoming winter opportunities for students. Marcy Migdal 2024 Fellow Simran Purewal

CGS recently spoke with Simran Purewal, a 2024 Migdal Fellow majoring in Physiology and minoring in Global Health using the $1,200 scholarship to support her research and outreach contributions to an India-based population health project enhancing education and health resources for women and children.

Student Opportunities

Apply for a M.A. in International Studies

The application deadline for all Jackson School MAIS programs is January 31, 2025.

The broad range of regional, comparative and interdisciplinary M.A. programs provide opportunities for students to study anything they can imagine. Learn more about the Jackson School MAIS program offerings and application requirements at this link.

Apply for a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship

The application deadline for Summer 2025 & Academic Year 2025-2026 is January 31, 2025, 5:00 PM PST.

FLAS Fellowships support undergraduate, graduate and professional students in acquiring modern foreign languages and area or international studies competencies. Students from all UW departments and schools are encouraged to apply.

Program Highlight

JSIS Students Get Hands-On Experience through Summer 2024 Global Research Group

In Summer Quarter 2024, a team of eight JSIS students worked under the guidance of Jackson School faculty member Dr. Jessica Beyer on a consulting project researching emerging technologies to advise Building Markets, a non-profit organization that supports small businesses globally.

Center for Global Studies Co-sponsors 2024 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) Documentary and Travessias Brazilian Film Festival

The Center for Global Studies works to connect Seattle-area audiences with global languages and cultures through its support of international film festivals. This past spring, the Center for Global Studies supported film festival programming for the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) and Travessias Brazilian Film Festival that brought global cinema to Seattle.
