After many years as Director of the Southeast Asia Center, Professor Laurie Sears is stepping down from that position and passing the torch to UW’s own Celia Lowe. Laurie will continue with her teaching and research pursuits here at UW, so she is not going to disappear from our sphere. Celia Lowe has joint Associate Professor appointments in the Jackson School of International Studies and in Anthropology (primarily Southeast Asia). She researches the Science and Technology aspects of anthropology and how “information” is framed and used by ethnographers and those they research alike. Thank you, Laurie, for all of your work and dedication over the years, and welcome, Celia!
