Randall C. Kyes, a Center for Southeast Asia and its Diasporas affiliate and research professor in the Department of Psychology, has been awarded the 2024 Distinguished Primatologists Award by the American Society of Primatologists (ASP).
Kyes was recognized for his work in conservation biology and global health in multiple Southeast Asian countries at 46th annual ASP meeting Sept. 8-11 in Mexico. The Distinguished Primatologists Award is the society’s highest honor, and is given to primatologists who demonstrate an outstanding career with significant contributions to the field.
For decades, Kyes has brought students to Southeast Asia for research and educational activities focused on conservation biology and global health. 2022 marked 30 years of field study led by Kyes on Tinjil Island, Indonesia; he continues to lead field courses in Southeast Asia, including two this year in Tangkoko Nature Reserve, Sulawesi, Indonesia, and Mahasarakham, Thailand.
