We are sad to report that one of the two faculty members who founded the African Studies program at the University of Washington passed away July 14, 2017. Please, visit the Department of Anthropology website for a full story.
In fall 2007 with the support of Professors Edgar Winans and Simon Ottenberg, the African Studies Program at the UW established a scholarship to honor their many contributions to the program and to the field of African studies. To learn more about the UW African Studies’ Ottenberg-Winans scholarship please visit our website.
Professor Winans’ family has organized an on-campus memorial service on 1 Oct. from 4pm-6pm at the University of Washington club. Please RSVP to janetwinans@earthlink.net. This is a nice opportunity for us to come together as a community and to honor someone who made a significant impact on anthropology and in the lives of his students.
