About
The African Studies Program (ASP) at the University of Washington is an interdisciplinary program, fostering a better understanding of the African continent and its diaspora. Bringing together faculty from every UW location (Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell), students are invited to take classes from a variety of disciplines.
We offer a minor for undergraduate students. We are very flexible in accepting credits towards the minor, encouraging students to engage in internships and study abroad programs that are associated with Africa.
African Studies is not a Department and we do not accept doctoral students. However PhD students from any department on campus can work with African Studies faculty on their committee. Please, see our list of affiliated faculty which highlights those faculty who are endorsed to chair doctoral supervisory committees and serve as a graduate student representative (GSR).
We also foster an academic community for African graduate students and graduate students interested in Africa.
We welcome you to join our community and further your interest in Africa by connecting with others at the University of Washington that are committed to African areas of study.
