In early May, the Department of Scandinavian Studies and the Jackson School for International Studies hosted Dr. Sonya Amadae, the Director of the Global Politics and Communication MA degree program and an Adjunct Professor in Politics at the University of Helsinki. Dr. Amadae visited UW classrooms and gave a public lecture in which she addressed Finland’s positioning in the Nordic-Baltic region and globally. Dr. Amadae highlighted Finland’s unique geo-political position throughout history, being both Nordic and Baltic, and commented on Finland’s new position as a member of NATO as Finland’s reputation for being “the happiest nation in the world.”
