Jackson School Professor Robert Pekkanen, an expert on Japan and electoral systems, has co-edited a new book, Japan Decides 2021: The Japanese General Election. The essays in this volume analyze the October 31, 2021, national parliamentary election in Japan. Individual chapters focus on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the postponed Tokyo Olympics, monetary policy, Black Lives Matter (in Japan), Abe Shinzo’s legacy, women’s representation, as well as political and social developments. It is designed to be the comprehensive analysis of this election.
