Join Jackson School Acting Assistant Professor Andrea Gevurtz Arai on Wednesday, Nov. 12 as she dives into the world “Spaces of Creative Resistance: Social Change Projects in 21st-Century East Asia,” of which she is the editor.
Over the last two decades, social disconnection, increased income disparity, and new burdens have been placed on the young, women’s reproductive labor, and the environment in Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Bringing together a cross-regional interdisciplinary group of scholars, scholar activists, artists, and others, each chapter in the volume focuses on a different form of “creative resistance” in response to these issues.
Gevurtz Arai will be joined by Jeff Hou from the National University of Singapore and Jackson School Associate Professor and Taiwan Studies Program Chair James Lin.
3:30 – 5 p.m. | Thomson Hall (THO) 317 | Free and open to the public
