The UW Japan Studies Program, the campus-wide organization of faculty and units serving students studying Japan in various disciplines has been renamed the UW Center for Japanese Studies. While our mission remains the same, the new name better reflects our role as the hub for Japanese research, teaching, non-classroom programming, collaborations across the entire UW campus, and as a point of contact with other institutions and organizations. The Center brings together faculty from diverse departments and professional schools — including Art History, Asian Languages and Literature, Built Environments, History, Political Science, and International Studies — in support of degrees and programs in various fields. The Center also engages with local partners such as the Seattle Asian Art Museum, Seattle Town Hall, Elliott Bay Books, and Third Place Books to host events that engage and inspire the public.
We look forward to building on this mission. Join us in support of our service by signing up for our email list to hear about programs, attend our events, and donate to the Friends of Japan Studies fund to help secure our future.
