The UW has announced a $6 million gift from the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation to the East Asia Library. In recognition of this gift, the library will be renamed the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi East Asia Library. In announcing the gift, Dan Asher of the Tateuchi Foundation said that more than the money, this is about people and that “the library is a place, not an app on your phone”. “$1 million will go to the renovation project, and the rest will create a new endowment” explains Azusa Tanaka, the Japanese collection librarian, “I am hoping this gift will help us grow the collection and further support the students and faculty’s teaching and research.”
